OGS Works Quay street
M3 3JE

This month we talk (and play with!!!!) VR projects that do good. Join us for chats, VR, food and drink at Manchester’s OGS Works.

Talk to us on #techforgoodlive @techforgoodlive

For full details, including the address, and to RSVP see:

We have talks and demos from:

•iAnimal from Animal Equality

Animal Equality are a farmed animal protection organisation that uses virtual reality to take people inside factory farms and slaughter houses. Our unique 360 experience, iAnimal, allows the viewer to have an immersive look into the lives and deaths of animals raised for food.

Filmed from the perspective of the animal, in full 360, iAnimal is the first VR experience to show people what the industry hides from us all. Animal Equality uses iAnimal to educate people about the reality of modern farming so that they can make an informed decision about whether they want to buy into the meat industry.

All of the footage was filmed by Animal Equality on working farms and slaughterhouses in 2016, and depicts legal, standard practise.”

They will talk about the project and bring some headsets for us to play with on the day.

• Gareth Ford Williams – Head of Accessibility at BBC Design and Engineering

The BBC are doing a lot of work looking at how VR can be accessible. There’s research going on into subtitle UX, push and pull audio description, enhanced visuals for eye conditions and parallel UX for both standing and wheelchair views.

It’s early stages but they have some great stuff to demo on the 3D audio.

Lightning talks

We’ll also have space for brief “lightning” talks on the night, where anyone will have a chance to speak for up to 3 minutes on something that helps more people do good with tech.

Reason Digital have helped us arrange the event, provided admin support and even made our lovely brand. So big thanks to them.

And 34SP continue to support us by grabbing the bill! Thanks team! Expect the usual amazing beer and pizza selection.

There is a limit on numbers for this event – so if you can’t make it, please let us know so someone else can come instead. You will need to have registered on the meet up group to come in I’m afraid. Sorry, we need to manage numbers.

See you there!
